Governor Signs Bad AZ Game and Fish Commission Bill
Last Wednesday, April 7, Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill establishing a committee that will recommend candidates for appointment to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission. As the bill moved through the Arizona Legislature, we asked you to call and write letters opposing the bill and we asked you to write to Governor Brewer asking her to veto it. Despite our efforts, as well as the efforts of many other conservation groups, the bill is now law.
Sandy Bahr of the Sierra Club said that the commission should not be restricted to just a few organizations. “There are many groups and organizations that work on wildlife issues from a variety of perspectives, and they are in no way represented in these groups [those making recommendations to the governor].” Interestingly, a rancher must be on this committee.
