Event: Intro to Wildlife Tracking Workshop

Join Albuquerque Packtivists to learn new skills on February 8, 2015!

We share our hiking trails with a lot of different wildlife that leave behind signs of their passing journeys. Is that a bobcat track or a coyote track? Are you following a Mexican wolf or was someone hiking with their family dog?

Join Janice Przybyl as she shares tips and pointers to help you decipher parts of the story. You will learn how and where to look for tracks, what clues in a track help identify species, how to recognize the difference between canine and feline tracks.

Wildlife tracking is a great way to experience and appreciate the region’s wildlife. Janice will cover Mexican wolf tracks and the animal’s natural history, i.e. habitat and prey preferences and how that relates to their tracks.

We will meet in the morning (9am) for a short presentation and then head out into the field (site TBD) to find wildlife tracks!

This workshop is for wolf supporters, and there is limited space for participants. Please email nancybsavage@gmail.com if you’re interested.

Janice Przybyl has been organizing wildlife tracking workshops and classes since 2001, first in the Sky Island region of Arizona and Mexico and now in New Mexico. She has a M.A. in Environmental Studies from Prescott College, Arizona. Janice’s master’s thesis explored the theoretical and practical framework for instituting a volunteer-based wildlife tracking project. That document became the management model for the Sky Island Alliance’s Wildlife Monitoring Program. Partnering with local conservation organizations, Janice continues to organize introductory wildlife tracking workshops primarily throughout the Mexican wolf recovery area of New Mexico and Arizona.
